Foot bath -Playa foot abatement

I will be bringing two sealable rubbermaid tubs for the foot bath. One will have a dilute solution of citric acid (to neutralize the alkaline play dust) and one will contain plain water to wash off excess citric acid. We should consider packing in a couple containers of aloe based moisturizer to rub on feet post bath. (Robin)

It occured to me that people may be over-thinking the shower bodily hygene part of things. I came from Kenya about 16 years ago, and for the first 10 years of my life the way i kept my body clean was as follows.

  • Fill a basin with ~2 gallons of water (this was usually fetched from

the river or a community well if in rural kenya).

  • Find a private spot, wet and liberally lather up a soft wash tool

(luffa, wash towel, rag), and set aside.

  • Strip down and wet entire body with water (usually cupped hands

delivered a liberal but metered amount of water to the body part desired).

  • Lather up the body as necessary with soap.
  • Use wash rag to scrub down entire body.
  • Rinse off body soap with the remaining water.
  • If you still have water, rinse the wash tool as well and hang it up to dry.
  • Dry yourself with a towel.

The thing to note here is the extreme water economy involved. You can keep yourself clean for at the most 3 gallons of water per day, and most people would probably not need to wash every day. I thought this might aid in the decisions surrounding bodily cleanliness. I think it would be cool to pack an outsized evap pool set up 6' X 6' to catch splash water for this method of self cleanliness. Please let me know what you think.
